Accessorize with scarves

3scarves

Scarves have long been a great accessory for any outfit. They can be worn so many ways, and have many purposes. Warm wooly scarves keep people cozy in winter; light silky scarves can add a dash of glamour to a summer dress.
In winter, try to find scarves that don’t itch or make scratchy marks on skin. Real wool can be wonderful, but cheap wool can be misery against the neck. Lambs wool is most often used, but there is nothing like the feel of cashmere against the neck or cheek. If you live in a climate where scarves are worn all winter, prepare to spend a little extra on this accessory.
Light silky scarves that twist or drape make a fabulous summer look. Flip one over the shoulder to ripple in the breeze in a convertible, or twist two together or braid three together for a unique look. These simple accessories can be picked up inexpensively in most stores. The light and airy look they give brings a touch of summer to a pretty floral dress.
Although belts are an accessory that can be fun and useful, they can be made to look a bit more unusual with a scarf. Add a great look to the belt by weaving a scarf through the loops, or just twisting it around the buckle.
Square scarves have long been popular accessories. Folded in a triangle and tied under the chin, they keep hair in place after a shampoo and set, or keep hair tidy while riding in a windy car. Draped over one shoulder and tied at the side, they give an elegant look to a simple blouse. Roll one up and use as a neckerchief, with a bow or knot in front. Try buying a scarf loop for another simple look, or knotting and holding secure with a pretty pin or brooch.
